The PINE Psychoanalytic Center

The PINE Psychoanalytic Center is dedicated to the support and advancement of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapies through psychoanalytic training, education, scholarly inquiry, and community advocacy.

Psychoanalytic Institute of New England, East (PINE) was created in 1975, by a group of psychoanalysts committed to exploring and teaching psychoanalytic ideas and practice in an intimate collegial atmosphere. The Psychoanalytic Society of New England (PSNE), was formed in 1991 to extend psychoanalytic learning to the greater mental health community. In 2010 we combined and reconstructed these two organizations into The PINE Psychoanalytic Center. This created an intellectual home for psychoanalysts, psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapists, and scholars interested in psychoanalytic ideas. Our community provides intellectual support and enrichment, opportunities to teach and to learn about psychoanalytic thinking and clinical practice, and scientific programs for the sharing of psychoanalytic ideas with the larger community. We also provide a range of consultative and educational activities to the broader mental health profession, and to the community at large.

PINE Psychoanalytic Center provides educational programs for diverse mental health professionals, deepening their access to key avenues of knowledge. We are committed to rigorous exploration of the various rich psychoanalytic theoretical perspectives. Many of our members contribute to the scientific understanding of human behavior by writing and publishing in psychoanalytic journals and books. (make a link to our authors’ bibliography here) Our members are substantial contributors to the structure and functioning of both the American Psychoanalytic Association, and the International Psychoanalytic Association.

Through our Scientific Meetings we offer public lectures and panel discussions exploring psychoanalytic ideas and their application to clinical practice and everyday life. These programs also offer continuing education credits for physicians, psychologists, and social workers. [link to calendar]

The PINE Psychoanalytic Center is also closely associated with the New England Foundation for Psychoanalysis (NEFP), an organization created for psychoanalytic outreach to the community, interdisciplinary collaboration, advocacy, and support of psychoanalytic research.
