Application for Full Training in Psychoanalysis

Training at PINE offers a unique opportunity to learn about psychoanalysis in an intimate yet diverse community of clinician scholars. Our faculty and candidates share a deep respect for the power of the unconscious and a confidence in the potential for change inherent in the psychoanalytic process. We feel that psychoanalysis is best learned in an environment where spirited dialogue is encouraged among teachers and students. Candidates seeking self- knowledge and awareness as well as clinical and academic exploration are encouraged to apply. As an affiliate of the American Psychoanalytic Association, PINE Psychoanalytic Institute’s admissions eligibility reflects the high standards of that organization. We welcome applications from any independently licensed mental health professional in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, social work, mental health counseling, or psychiatric nursing. Applicants should have an established psychotherapy practice and a demonstrated interest in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. We also look for personal integrity, maturity, intellectual curiosity, clinical skills, psychological mindedness, and the capacity for self-examination. We are happy to arrange pre-application meetings with members of our faculty or candidate group to discuss training at PINE. Applications should be submitted by June first to facilitate admission for training to begin in the following September. Applications will also be accepted at other times during the year, and successful applicants may be allowed to begin at other times when this is appropriate. To apply for adult psychoanalytic training, we request that you provide us with: a completed application form (available here or through the PINE Psychoanalytic Center office), including a signed authorization for the Institute to contact institutions or individuals by whom the applicant is known, the names and addresses of four individuals who have agreed to provide letters of support, and a current Curriculum Vitae. At least two of the letters of recommendation should be from individuals who know your clinical work, and, whenever possible, one letter should be from the director of your clinical degree training. There is a non-refundable application fee of $100. Once your application is reviewed we will invite you to a series of three or more interviews with members of our Admissions Committee. All decisions about admission are made by recommendation of the Admissions Committee and approval by the Education Committee. Under ordinary circumstances, applicants will be notified of the decision of the Admissions Committee within one month of completing the interviews.
