Treatment Philosophy:
I believe that learning to understand oneself is a way to personal freedom. To that end, I treat children, adolescents and adults who have a genuine desire to feel better and seek relief from their symptoms and suffering, be it anxiety, post traumatic stress, compulsions, relationship difficulties or poor work performance in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy, using psychodynamic principles. I believe that our problems can be traced back to our early childhood roots, upbringing, traumas – even later in life and that if brought back from the unconscious when they have been repressed, they can be understood and ameliorated. I believe that psychoanalysis is a growth experience which can be life changing.
Brief Biography:
Originally from Prague, Czechoslovakia, I immigrated to Montreal, Canada prior to coming to Boston, MA, USA. Thus I have a multicultural education with beginnings in Europe, High school, college and medical school in Canada and postgraduate training in the USA. I have a full time private practice, was a Psychiatric consultant to the MSPCC Sexual Abuse team, the South Shore Mental Health Center Child and Adolescent Services in Quincy, MA, and currently consult to the Brandon Residential Treatment Center in Natick, MA. For many years, I have taught Child Development and other seminars at PINE and supervise residents in Psychiatry in the Harvard Longwood residency program.
I have tried tried use my international background both in understanding my patients from different cultures and with different mores, as well as impart this understanding in my teaching trainees. My interests have been multifaceted ranging from helping children and families, and parent work to insight oriented therapy and psychonalaysis with patients who have symptoms preventing them from leading productive lives, be it depression, anxiety, post traumatic symptoms or obsessions, compulsions and characterological difficulties in relating to others and having meaningful relationships.
